About this item: By Joycelyn Sena Zigah, these handcrafted earrings depict cowrie shells in gleaming sterling silver. The beautiful shells were once used as money in West Africa, and Ghana's currency - the Cedi - takes its name from sedie, the Akan word for "cowrie." "Cowrie is money and should be worn as such - an emblem of prosperity," the Ghanaian designer says. .925 Sterling silver
About our Artist: 'My name, Sena, means 'bringing heaven to earth' in the language of the Ewe people of Ghana,' says Joycelyn Sena Zigah. 'My parents had to travel miles for me to be born, so my mother has considered me special after that experience. My mother traded in earrings, necklaces and beads so I naturally followed up. It has been a challenge working in a male-dominated field, fortunately I am one tough cookie so I don't get pushed over easily.'...
